About Radiant Heart Yoga

Radiant Heart Yoga Story

RHY was founded in 2008 by Nichole Meier Churchill, a mother, certified yoga instructor, birth doula, and childbirth educator.  Pregnant with her second daughter, Nichole created RHY after moving to the Dundee-area and finding a lack of resources for pregnant women. Feeling lost, disconnected, and isolated, she envisioned building a studio and community of moms to support one another as they transitioned into motherhood. Starting out 2 small prenatal classes held in Nichole’s home in 2010, RHY has since flourished into an independent yoga studio that encompasses yoga classes for women and children, childbirth education, massage therapy specifically for women, as well as support groups for new moms and women.

In June 2016, in a can’t- turn -down- job- opportunity for her husband, Nichole and her family packed up and relocated to Southern California. Nichole’s passion, love, and dedication to working with women, especially those during the childbearing years, lead her to want to continue her work with RHY as an online studio. Her decision to move the studio online was so she could continue to work with her students in IL AND be able to reach more women. Even in yoga-saturated southern California, the lack of prenatal yoga classes is apparent. By moving RHY online, Nichole hopes to reach women from all over and make it accessible and easy for them to take quality prenatal yoga classes, not just a “regular” yoga class with modifications for pregnant students.

RHY online studio will continue to grow and shape as time goes on. Plans to expand to include postnatal, yoga for women, fertility, and kids classes are in the works along with workshops on other topics of interest to women and mothers.

What women have said about Radiant Heart Yoga…

“I would tell others that it’s not just a yoga studio. It’s a place to feel welcome and comfortable and supported through life’s challenges as well as coming together and into yourself. To be able to meditate and relax through yoga. To feel better. To feel life. I wish I would have found it sooner.”

At Yoga for Women, I was able to get moving again after a C-section and feel like it was OK to take care of myself again after taking care of everyone else. The class is well-rounded, blending stretching/breathing exercises and strengthening exercises so I leave feeling calmer and more energized at the same time. It is the perfect treat for myself at the end of a long week.

“The yoga made my body feel good during pregnancy, and I really liked the discussions at the beginning of class. Nichole has so much knowledge so there were many things that I learned – but I would say the best was the skill set and confidence to make it through labor naturally. That was really important to me because I was trying to have a VBAC this time around and knew there could be a lot of hurdles to doing that. “

I’ve appreciated a space each week to come to that allows me to quiet my mind and connect with my baby. To be able to shut the world out for a few minutes and re-center on what’s important to me is so valuable. And physically, I’ve appreciated the variety with which Nichole approaches each class. I feel like I learn something new about my body each time that can be transferrable to my home and the hospital. I’ve had a wonderful experience that’s been worth every penny. Make time for yourself and your baby!

“Nichole and the other women in class were instantly welcoming and full of knowledge and experience to share that was more real than any book I picked up. Nichole became the voice in my head throughout my pregnancy. She encouraged me to question the norm, be my own advocate and most of all go easy on myself.”
